The stage was set for the Santiago 2023 Pan and Parapan American Games with a strong commitment from the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to ensure that the event was not only about sporting excellence but also about accessibility and inclusion. I Design Access played a crucial role as the primary accessibility consultant, tasked with ensuring that all venues met world-class standards in both athletic facilities and accessibility.

Santiago, nestled amidst the Andes Mountains, proudly prepared to host the continent for the Pan and Parapan American Games 2023. Beyond the excitement, there was a dedicated effort to make these Games genuinely inclusive. Partnering with I Design Access, the LOC embarked on transforming the city’s infrastructure to ensure accessibility for athletes and spectators of all abilities.

The Santiago 2023 Games showcased architectural brilliance and accessibility, thanks to the support of I Design Access. From the historic National Stadium to the innovative aquatics center, each venue reflected Santiago’s commitment to accessibility.

I Design Access went beyond minimum standards, incorporating innovative design elements to ensure seamless access for individuals with diverse mobility needs. Ramps, elevators, tactile paths, and sensory signage were meticulously implemented to create inclusive spaces.

While the Pan American Games brought together athletes from 41 countries across 39 sports, it was the Parapan American Games that truly exemplified inclusivity, with 31 countries participating in 17 sports, showcasing the resilience of para-athletes from across the Americas.

Accessibility was at the core of the Games’ success. Thanks to the efforts of I Design Access and the LOC, para-athletes and spectators enjoyed the Games without encountering barriers or limitations.

As the Santiago 2023 Games concluded, the legacy of accessibility and inclusion persisted. These Games not only demonstrated the transformative power of sport but also set a new standard for accessibility in major sporting events.
