The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games were two international multi-sport events held from July 26 to August 11, 2024 and from August 28 to September 8, 2024, respectively, in Paris, France.
Having the Games in one of the most iconic cities in Europe was spectacular. However, Paris, being as old as it is, presented many challenges, especially regarding accessibility. I Design Access, LLC, together with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) worked to make all infrastructure and all venues as accessible as possible.
Our involvement in the project included all aspects of accessibility from the design development, to the construction, the documentation, and the delivery of the Games. Having plenty of historic buildings in a limited space and with a tight budget called for creative solutions, with as seamless accessibility as possible. I Design Access worked hand in hand with the LOC to find the most suitable options in each case.
Furthermore, during the Games, Ileana Rodriguez, CEO & Founder, participated in the UNESCO’s “Change the Game” Partners’ Forum, held in Paris, on July 23, 2024, and spoke about Equality and Inclusion at the International Summit on Sport and Sustainable Environment, held in Paris, on July 25, 2024.
The 2024 Olympic Games featured 329 events in 32 different sports, encompassing a total of 48 disciplines. The 2024 Summer Paralympics featured 549 events in 22 sports. I Design Access reviewed the design of all the venues, oversaw the implementation of any modifications and inspected the completed projects. We also reviewed and provided recommendations to improve the airport and the city’s infrastructure to ensure a positive experience for all participants of the games. With more than 4,460 athletes competing in the Paralympic Games and about 10,700 athletes in the Olympic competitions, having an accessible city was of utmost importance.
In the end, despite the many challenges encountered along the way, the Games were a resounding success where athletes, teams, and spectators alike, enjoyed the sporting atmosphere and the views. I Design Access is proud to help build these lasting memories for all attendees.
